snowflake ballet

(tights/boots: forever21, everything else is vintage or thrifted)

Snowfall is the best thing about winter, although it does tangle up plans and make your Saturday much different than it was planned to be. I ended up staying around town, took a little drive (after much clearing of ice on my car and carefully walking down my ice-covered back staircase) to the Waldo Flea Market in search of Valentine's Day cards/decorations. There was such an assortment of cards perfect for the holiday, I ended up choosing my favorite and heading home with it.
I decided to wear my newest addition to my nightgown collection, a vintage Dior silk and lace piece, out and about today. When I was in high school, some of my favorite dresses where in fact nightgowns as well, and it's quite funny to me how my personal style is like "an ever-repeating circle" (or so I thought that today). Does that feeling ever come to you? It's quite a wonderful thing being able to use your past wardrobe choices for current influence. I hope to be able to look back at how I dressed now for future clothing choices.

bare bones and branches

(trying scones and cookies at the Cookie Jar Bakery.)

Even with the 90 degree temperatures of this Thursday afternoon, I tried to imagine it was autumn. Although it was semi-hard with not being able to get my coffee warm or wear layers of any kind, some themed cookies and pumpkin items did the trick. I also took today to "de-stress" myself, watched some New Girl, read some old National Geographics, lit some fall smelling candles, drink the last of my homemade chai, and laughed at my cats getting scared by the rain that happened this evening. I believe this school semester will become less of a burden and more of an exciting time... I have officially decided to change my major to Middle School Language Arts. Change just happens to be my middle name, if you don't already know that.
With the want of cool chills and woolly scarves running through my veins  I made a my seasonal to-do list today for fall, which I will share with you after the "official" season of fall begins next week. I am hoping to complete a few of those items this weekend, because everyone knows this season brings the best festivals... and they seem to be happening every weekend from here on out.

this land is your land

(everything worn here is either vintage or thrifted)

When I stepped outside my apartment door today, I felt an overcome of steamy and hot summer air even in the early hours of the morning. Summer isn't gone yet. The Midwest always plays tricks like this. Although that didn't cut my adventures too short today. I just finished a weekend class and needed a little escape. My boyfriend and I gathered up a few things and headed out to Lakeside Nature Center and for the surrounding trails.
Hiking along trails is one of those things I never really appreciated when I was younger. I always wanted a point-end destination; like a body of water or a specific sight. I've really come to enjoy the act of hiking, not the ending result.       The heat did catch up to us, so ending the afternoon at the farmer's market and gathering produce for dinner/the rest of the week was fine by me. I'm looking forward to wrapping up some homework and watching the latest episode of Breaking Bad at Screenland for the rest this Sunday.

fountains of youth

(a few thrifted items from a flea market in downtown Kansas City, Kansas.)

(everything worn here is either vintage or thrifted)

Although I've been awaiting the dying out of summer, it's crazy how fast the time flies and how I am starting classes. Today was the last official day of my summer break, and the start of a new term. I'm rather happy to be knowing I'm even closer to my graduation date, but this semester will be a busy one. A  very busy one. You'll probably be hearing and seeing a little less of me, since my daily adventures won't take me very much farther than my school books.
This summer break has been a time of change. A change in living spaces, ideas, many new friends, jobs.. the list goes on. I feel like summer is the oddest season out of the year for me, always. I can't wait to sit down in a week or two and write my seasonally "to-do list". Fall is very soon on its way.
