first snow of the winter

(favorite shades of opi. excuse my poorly painted nails, i always have to go back with nail polish remover and clean them up!)

(homemade, vegan peanut butter pie. i used my recipe, here. just added the vegan chocolate gauche into the pie itself.)

the city of fountains had a chilly surprise this morning for us, our first snow of the winter season! honestly, i did not think we were actually going to get any, but old man winter came through with my wishes. i always love the first snow of the season; how bright it is outside, taking walks in the snow, and making everything feel more like christmas/winter. the first snow can also be a drag though, with the icy streets and the fact that no one feels like leaving the warmth of their home.
the coat i am wearing is my favorite winter coat that i own, and i was excited to wear it for the rest time this season. i found (yes, found! not bought) this coat at a place called the "give n' get", which is a place people could drop off unwanted items and leave with any that interested them. the place is closed currently, but i am hoping it will re-open. readers, are there any places like this in your town? i have never run across anything else like it before.

  4. I'm in St. Louis and we saw our first flurries today, too! So exciting, but so shockingly cold. We've been teased with mild weather for too long and I've forgotten what winter really feels like!

  7. I adore the first snow of winter, too. There's such an unspoiled, pristine, beautiful quality to it. Snow seems new again, as if you're experiencing it for the first time, and the days of yearning madly for summer's return that so often strike come February and March haven't settled in yet, which makes it all the more delightful.

  11. I looooooove peanut butter pie! Ah, I actually hope it doesn't snow here. Or well, it can snow, but I hope it doesn't stick to the ground. I know, I sound like a snow scrooge, but when you don't have snow days from work like you do when you're in school, snow isn't very fun.

  12. Seattle had it's first snow two days ago--I was surprised to wake up and see white on tops of cars & slush on the sidewalk. Unlike your pretty photos, tho, it was gone by mid-morning.
