made at home: basil mint lemonade

Basil Mint Lemonade

  • 2 cups of Basil Mint Lemon simple syrup*
  • 2 cups of cold water
  • 2 cups of ice
  • 5 large juiced lemons

Combine all ingredients into a large pitcher, and serve in a glass with ice.

*Basil Mint Lemon Simple Syrup

  • 1/4 cup of fresh basil
  • 1/4 cup of fresh mint
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 3 cups of water
  • 2 cups of sugar

Place all ingredients into a medium sauce pan, bring to a boil and let the sugar dissolve. Let the mixture sit until cooled, then strain  the solids until just the liquid mixture is let. Place in the fridge until ready for use.

(I used my french press to separate the herbs from the liquid in the simple syrup.)

The thing with me and lemonade is that I have to be in the exact mood for it.. and it also can't just be "lemonade". Since I have been growing "Spicy Globe Basil" on my front porch, I decided to put it to use this afternoon with some mint I had purchased at the farmer's market earlier this weekend. This lemonade recipe is such a refreshing, not-too-sweet, savory summer drink. Enjoy!
