autumn almanac

seasonal fall activities are the best thing about this time of year! i have been slaking on my fall to-do list, so i decided to knock a few things off my list. i ended up having a complete free day yesterday, due to the students at the elementary school i intern at having a day off of school, and i really did not know what to do with myself! it is weird for me to have an entire day with nothing planned. i was still needing a few pieces for my halloween costume, mary poppins, so i decided to head to a few thrift stores in my area. i went to rainbow thrift and discovered they have a whole vintage clothing section and it was decorated so perfectly. i found a pair of brown heels i feel in love with, but they were a little too big (which was odd for vintage shoes, because usually they are too small for me!). after searching a few other thrift stores, i still could not find anything i needed for my costume! i guess i'll just have to keep being on the look out.
my boyfriend purchased us a pumpkin a few days ago, so we decided to carve it into something really scary... which did not turn out like we thought it would! carving tiny details into pumpkins are a lot harder than the youtube videos tell you it is. he ended up carving a silly face into the pumpkin after trying for awhile. while gutting out the pumpkin, my cats were so fascinated by the seeds and parts of the pumpkin. we had no idea that pumpkin and pumpkin seeds are extremely good for cats to eat! both of my cats loved the pumpkin seeds and ate them the whole time we were carving it. lucky, they saved enough for me to roast in the oven (which it was so yummy!). we ended our night by watching a horror/scfi film, eating sushi we brought earlier, and drinking schlafly's pumpkin ale. i wonder what fall things will be in store for this weekend...
